I have a 2006 Harley Ultra Classic. I need a rear tire and I currently have a D402 MU85B-16. Is the Shinko SR777 150/80-16 an exact replacement and is the Shinko tire a good tire ?|||A MU-85 equates to a metric 140-85. Most touring 140s have an aspect ratio of 90 rather than 85. So, the Shinko is 10mm wider and 1mm taller than the Dunlop. So far, so good. However, check the load rating on the Shinko because the MUs have a higher load rating than the ordinary run of the mill metric tire. The MU is probably rated something like 910-920 lbs. Most 140s will be somewhere around 800 lbs. If you ride single, you might be ok but if you ever haul pillion with lots of gear, I personally wouldn't chance it.|||I ride a Harley Road king and I use the Dunlap's. The reason is the tread, and construction. I know the Dunlop's can take the kind of stress, I put on my tires. They also have good grip in the rain, on grass, dirt, gravel, even snow. The Dunlops maybe the best, all around tire made.
The Shinko looks like a good dry pavement, light rain tire. But not so good on loose surfaces. I like the tread better than some, but not as much as the Dunlop.|||This is not really a good answer, or, at least not a complete answer. I have several friends who ride Ultra Classics and between them have put hundreds of thousands of miles on their bikes. They all use the Harley Dunlops. Believe me, they have tried a bunch of different brands and keep coming back to the Dunlops. I don't ride an Ultra but I do use the Harley Dunlops because they make the most sense to me. I get more trouble-free miles per dollar with the Dunlops.|||According to their website:
In 1998 the Shinko Group purchased the motorcycle tire technology and molds from Yokohama Rubber Co., and began production of these products under the Shinko Tire brand.
Shinko is a Jap company, the tires are manufactured in Korea.
I don't think I'd have a problem running them if I wasn't sold on Avons for my heavy Honda.|||Not looking on a particular site for the correct size, I can only offer you my best expirence. I replaced the stock OEM Dunlop tires on my VT1100C Honda Shadow with a set of Continental Milestones, partly due to the manufacturer saying they were for 'heavy cruisers' and the recomendation of a buddy who has been riding longer than I've been alive. If you go to www.cruisercustomizing.com or www.shadetreepowersports.com (where I got mine) they both have a great selection and online fitment guides to insure you're ordering the right thing. (I did a few blog entries about them on the cruisercustomizing.com site as well - if you chose to read them my screen name there is the same as on here) I'd have them professionally spin balanced and mounted to insure safety. Keep the chrome in the air and the rubber on the road Bro.|||My personal preference is to pay the extra bucks and go with a top rated tire. Tires are the most important parts on your motorcycle as 'they keep you stuck to the road', (sort-a-speak)
Check consumer reports, but that Dunlap is an okay tire but there are better.|||I run the Shinko tires on my sport bike and I'd say there just as good as Dunlop tire's at a fraction on the cost.
