Is dunlop the best tire for my softail ?

got factory tires on my HD still in fair condition have over 10,000 miles on them , whats the best tire out there ?|||DUNLOP!!! I have spoke with Dunlop and other tire manufacturers. The "compound" of the front and rear are different for a reason and Harley puts them on ALL their new bikes for a reason. The Dunlop is a softer tire and yes I do go through the rear tire more often due to the motor performance upgrades I have added and I do roll on the throttle pretty heavy is the reason I go through those rear tires so fast. As for cornering on the mountain roads here in Colorado, those Dunlops stick, big time.

Good Luck|||we just replaced the factory back tire on our '04 ultra with 14,600 miles on it with another dunlop just like it. it still had a little bit of tread left but not much. we figure if HD thinks dunlops are good enough to put on them at the factory, we'll just stick with them. dunlop recently settled a strike, and supplies might be backordered, but we had no trouble getting a tire. good luck, and ride safe.|||The best tire for your HD:

AVON.

Not cheap but they are the best you can buy.|||youll get more milage out of the elite, than the one that came stock on it....|||Avon|||Be careful there are only a few tires out there rated for heavy bikes.|||dunlops are a happy medium. avons are much stickier but a lot less mileage probably around 6000 to 8000 mi. metzlers on the other hand usually get about 12-15000 mi. but they are much harder so they don't handle corners quite as well. if you change the rear to a different brand it is a good idea to match the brands so then you would also be buying a new front tire. Or you can put another dunlop on the rear and when it wears out aprox. 20k you can put a pair of metzlers on. no need to replace a perfectly good front tire.|||Once you go with Metzler ME 880 you will feel 10 times more secure in rain and cornering. Metzller is a softer tire better in these circumstances. You will not get as good mileage with a soft tire (7500--10k back 10-15 front)|||I have used both Dunlops and Metzlers and for my money the Metzlers are far better I will ride on the Metzlers because nothing grips the road like they do.
